Step 1: Find Your Tools
Changing a flat tire only requires a couple of tools. You’ll need a jack and a lug wrench. Of course, you’ll also need your spare tire.
Step 2: Loosen the Lug Nuts While the Vehicle is On the Ground
Once you have everything you need, you’ll want to loosen the lug nuts by using the wrench and turning it in a counter-clockwise manner. Don’t take the nuts completely off yet.
Step 3: Raise Up the Car and Remove the Flat Tire
Next, put the jack under a strong section of your car and raise it until it’s off the ground. Many cars have a specific jack point for this, so it’s best to check your owner’s manual. At this point you can take the lug nuts off, along with the bad tire.
Step 4: Put on the New Tire and Lower the Car
Place the spare tire onto the bolts and hand tighten the Lugnuts. Then you can lower the car. Once lowered, use the lug wrench to fully tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern.
